Unlike other radios, it is not absolutely necessary to get a programming cable for radio use. However to access all of the features, you will need to order this programming cable. For $10 you will be able to spend an ungodly amount of time designing your own code plug and trying it with your radio and then post it for other people to take your hard work and put it into their radio.
This cable is needed to update the firmware of the radio.

This is not a cheaply made cable, the high quality is evident and the gold spring loaded contacts and threaded retention thumb screw mounts the cable to the radio quickly and securely.
Great design with the contact pins, less wear and tear than conventional two pin. Simply plug and play not a single issue.
Excellent quality, works very well, would highly recommend it. Downloaded the software for the radio and simply plugged the cable in and went to work, very impressed.

You need one for your CS580
I believed them when they said that you need to have one of these to use the radio. It's true. If you have a junkbox with some USB cables in it, just be sure that you have one like this. It's different from the "Chinese economy" type radios with the two-pin audio plug connectors. As far as this particular cable, it's solid and extremely usable, I am 100% happy that I got it. And it is exactly the right USB cable for this radio.

Cable is a must
It's just a cable, but the radio end is unlike any other and a must with any order.

Works perfectly, no monkey business
For a cable, it's usually either go, or no-go. This cable works well, has good contact and retention, and fits perfectly with the HT. IF it's a quick up/download, you can hold it with your thumb. Otherwise go ahead and use the screwdown to keep it in place (fingers work; screwdriver is not required).
